What Our Garden Maintenance Includes

Most people come to us for the regular work: mowing, edging, weeding, pruning and keeping the beds looking like someone cares. That’s our lawn and garden maintenance, and it’s the bulk of what we do.

Lawns get their own attention. We lay turf, aerate, scarify and run ongoing turf management programmes. If yours is patchy rather than dead, lawn rejuvenation will usually bring it back without the cost of replacing it. More often than not the real problem is underneath, which is where garden fertilising and soil work come in.

Hedges we cut properly. Hedge trimming on formal and screening hedges, tall ones included, and every clipping leaves with us.

When a garden needs more than tidying up, a garden makeover reworks the layout, planting, mulch and soil rather than papering over it.

Watering is its own thing. We design and service irrigation, install new systems, and repair existing ones that leak, water unevenly or have quietly stopped working.

For strata and commercial properties we run scheduled grounds care. Same team, same standard each visit, and managers know exactly when we’re on site.

Beyond that there’s pest and disease identification, soil improvement, garden beds and edging, and one-off clean-ups. The full list of services is here, and you can check the suburbs we cover.

What Garden Maintenance Costs in Sydney

It’s the first thing most people want to know, and the honest answer is that it depends — though not vaguely. A few specific things decide what a garden costs to look after.

Size and what’s growing in it: A courtyard with a couple of beds takes a fraction of the time an acreage block with established trees and hedges does.

How often we visit: Regular fortnightly or monthly maintenance costs less per visit than one-off work, simply because there’s less growth to deal with each time.

How overgrown it is now: If a garden has been left for a season or two, the first visit is a clean-up rather than a maintenance visit. We price that separately, so your ongoing rate isn’t inflated by it.

Access: Narrow side gates, stairs and steep ground all slow the work down.

Green waste: How much material comes off the site, and whether it needs taking away.

We don’t publish a price list, because quoting a garden from a photo or a phone call gets it wrong in both directions — and neither of us wants a surprise on the invoice. Instead, we come out, walk the garden with you, and give you a fixed, itemised quote before any work starts. It’s free, and there’s no obligation.

How Often Should a Garden Be Maintained?

Most family homes settle on fortnightly through the warmer months and monthly over winter. Larger properties and acreage usually need weekly visits, especially where the lawn is the main event.

Sydney’s growing season does most of the deciding. From about October to March lawns and hedges put on serious growth. Come winter the same garden stretches out comfortably, so we move schedules with the seasons rather than billing you for visits you don’t need.

Strata and commercial sites generally run a fixed schedule year-round.

If your garden’s been left a while, start with a clean-up and go onto a schedule after. It works out cheaper than calling someone in every time it gets out of hand.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

We engaged Greenz to do a major gardening clean up and general lawn service on the family home. We’re busy people and really just don’t have the time to maintain the yard, so the yard and gardens really were out of control.

The team were FANTASTIC. Just WOW.

The boys cleaned up the gardens and the yard (a huge undertaking), and the yard and gardens have not looked or felt better. From the initial consultation right through to the finishing touch ups, the attention to detail, personalised service and value for money are +++.

We will absolutely be using your services again.

Thank you, Greenz!

Before they came, my yard looked like it was sponsored by chaos. Adam and Ben and the rest of the team were instrumental in turning my garden from something that was so average to an amazing oasis. They were honest and open in all communication and gave professional and cohesive advice that catered to my original vision but it turned out so much more than I could have ever hoped for. If I could give more stars I would but alas only can do 5 so 5 it is! I’m pretty sure my plants are now living a better life than I am.

I have been using Greenz for over 10 years to maintain my gardens and have found them to be exemplary. They always show up when they say they will, and are affable, knowledgeable and committed to doing their job properly. Whichever team shows up they have always done an excellent job and satisfied any specific requests that I have had of them. The owner, Ben, comes to my home periodically to review the work that has been done and to discuss any additional work which I might want to undertake, which I appreciate greatly. I cannot recommend this business highly enough. Keep up the great work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Garden Maintenance Questions, Answered

Answers to the questions we hear most from Sydney homeowners and property managers

How much does garden maintenance cost in Sydney?

It depends on the size of the garden, how often we visit and what condition it's in. Regular fortnightly work costs less per visit than occasional rescue jobs. We quote on site and give you a fixed, itemised price in writing before starting, at no charge.

What does garden maintenance consist of?

A standard visit covers mowing, edging, weeding, pruning, hedge tidying and removing the green waste. Depending on the garden we'll also handle fertilising, mulching, soil work and checking irrigation. You choose whether that runs weekly, fortnightly, monthly or as a one-off.

How much does a local gardener charge per hour?

Sydney gardeners typically charge either by the hour or by the visit, and rates vary with qualifications, insurance and equipment. We price by the job rather than the hour, so you know the full cost upfront instead of watching the clock.

What are the tenant's responsibilities for garden maintenance in NSW?

Your residential tenancy agreement decides this. Generally a tenant with exclusive use of the garden keeps it tidy — mowing, weeding and watering — while the landlord handles trees, structural work and anything needing specialist gear. Check your agreement, or NSW Fair Trading, if it isn't clear.

Are you qualified and insured?

Yes. Our team are qualified horticulturists and we carry public liability insurance on every job. Greenz has operated across Sydney since 2014, and the business is owned and run by Ben Warren, a qualified horticulturalist.

Are your quotes free?

Yes, and there's no obligation. We come to the property, walk the garden with you and send a fixed, itemised quote in writing. We don't quote from photos, because they never show the whole job.

Which areas of Sydney do you service?

We cover roughly 200 suburbs across five regions — the Hills District, Hornsby, the North Shore, the Inner West, Parramatta, Ryde and the CBD. We're based in Castle Hill. If you're unsure whether we reach you, just ask.

How often should a garden be maintained?

Most family homes settle on fortnightly through the warmer months and monthly over winter. Larger properties often need weekly visits. Sydney's growing season runs roughly October to March, and we adjust schedules with it rather than charging for visits you don't need.

What is the lowest maintenance garden for Sydney conditions?

Hardy plants suited to your soil and light, a thick mulch layer, simple bed edges and drip irrigation. That combination needs far less input than a big lawn, and looks considerably better than paving the whole yard.

Do you take the green waste away?

Yes, everything we cut leaves with us. No piles left on the lawn or driveway, and we don't fill your council green bin — a decent hedge trim alone would take months of bin cycles to clear.
